Snowboard Matteo Borgardt

  • Years of snowboarding: 10, i think....
  • City: Roma, Bardonecchia, Canazei...
  • Sponsors: bastard, Electric, Skullcandy, Artec

Matteo Borgardt aka Whatza is one of those peaceful guys that nobody can hate on, because is a good guy. Mother nature gifted him with that laid back relaxed attitude that only few have. Snowboarding wise, he's an italian american rider that kept the american style, of which he has a lot in general, and embraced the italian spirit. When i first met him he was motivated to ride street, rails, but after a season like last year, with plenty of snow, he fell in love with powder and he's becoming a more all round rider.

Randomite – teaser

Thursday July 21st, 2011

The new RandomVideo teaser came out on time as usual. Randomite, this is the name of the video, will be out in fall 2011 featuring the videoparts of Whatza and Lukas Goller.
What a pleasure for me to see Lukas jumping with the Salmon board we gave him last winter for a test, it seems to work very good!

Whatza, Click on the Mountain 2011

Wednesday March 30th, 2011

I think that local Monte Bianco ski mountaineers were looking couriously to a guy wearing an hawaian shirt climbing through glaciers and rifts.
Despite his unsual outfit, Whatza won the best snowboard photo contest at the Click On The Mountain 2011, killing two birds with one stone as he was testing the next year snowear.

A complete report by Andrea Giordan on the next issue of Snowboard Mag.

Random Video presents Matteo Borgardt

Tuesday January 4th, 2011

Random just published a new clip to present the riders of  Too Much Too Serious.

The new clip is dedicated to Matteo Borgardt aka Whatza, an American snowboarder grown up between California and Colorado. Whatza decided to settle in Italy after a short trip in the Alps.

It seems that he feels comfortable around here.

Random Video “TOO MUCH TOO SERIOUS” teaser

Thursday July 15th, 2010

Random Video Production proudly presents the teaser of “Too Much Too Serious”, his last video coming next fall, with videoparts for Lukas Goller and Matteo Borgardt.

Here are some questions to Alessandro Miniotti, aka Killer.

Finally a good metal teaser; whose idea was it?
The idea was mine as i felt the need of refreshing the style a bit. The actual soundtrack will vary and include many genres so that it doesn’t get boring.

The title you chose doesn’t actually mean much, it feels like Luks Goller a little bit, true or false?
Yes Lukas did play an influence, how’d you guess (ironic)?

You work side by side with both Lukas and Matteo Borgardt, how’d they behave last winter?
With Matteo i have work, lived and enjoyed life for 3 years now. He’s a key element within many choices that involve Random. I’ve known Lukas for longer but onlyt during the last 2 seasons we got closer and got to know each other better. They both showed great passion for the Random project, not only as riders, and i’m thankful for that. Aside from little episodes, I can safely state they did behave! :)

Argentera is often described as heaven for riders and filmers: it’s the spot you filmed the most, right?
Argentera is an awesome place, one chairlift and new powder every week. It’s not easy to reach and there’s not many comforts up there but it’s paradise for those who love the mountains raw and uncut.

So now a little vacation and then back to work for closing this project? When will it premiere?
Yeah, now a short break is deserved. And then like you said back to work for finishing the video that will premiere at the Skipass in Modena. We’re also organizing a synchronized premiere at all the surfshops that are interested. Will announce dates and places asap!

Electric Safari session report

Thursday April 16th, 2009

Tobias Sherlin visto dal fish eye di Daniele Kaehr

Boy, such a long weekend up there in Gaverland! After a series of quite unfortunate events (avalanches, broken roads and postponed events), we finally succeeded in the Safari Session, the Electric Team Photoshoot. During the winter we added up quite a few riders in the Electric roster, hence the idea of the photoshoot and some filming. The tranny was built by Mattia Molnar with the help of Gigi Gas and his brand new Everest. The kicker that came was 8mt tall (26ft) with a 6mt (20ft) gap, raised landing and a nice steep bumpy runway.

Who showed up and what did they do?

On Easter Sunday, Mattia and Tobias Sherlin open up the jump fearlessly. Mattia shoots out a couple of frontflips while Tobias celebrates the warm spring sun riding in sunglasses, no gloves and no jacket, simply killing it. New jack Matteo “Whatza” Borgardt, shovel in his hands, builds a wall on the landing and starts a series of handplants in the jump gap. And watching him ride the park rails was awesome. Kinder, landed in haste from London, rested for almost the whole day saving up energy for power 360s in the golden hour.

On the skiers front, Massimo Kikko came back on the big jumps after ACL surgery. Knee and tricks getting along perfectly! Paolo Martinoglio killed it, and we could see why he’s in the european team! We sure didn’t expect a 15 year old busting big moves like those. Mark this name: Denis Battisti, supercool young Obereggen local.

For the records, Mattia lands a 720 cork, then takes his girl on (litterally!) and rides down the mountain to the parking lot with the “passenger”, followed but their trustee dog Doremi. Family time (best image of the whole photoshooting)!

Monday morning up at 5am for catching the crazy lighting before we had to go. As the sun starts rising the session starts off. Kikko abandones due to evident hangover matters, Pedrazzi the swissman abandones due to evident crazyness matters. So only Kinder and Paolo keep on riding and make this early session worth the rude awakening. The sun is now all the way out, it’s 8 am, time for breakfast and the ride home.

Thanks to: Electric, bastard, Gaverland and the locals, Daniele Kaehr, GroS, Riky Felderer for the photos, Simone Salvatori for videos, all the riders for the tricks and good luck to Lukas Goller that injured his knee before the session. Here a small photogallery with the guys attending the events, for more infos and pictures stay tunes on Snowboard mag, 4Skiers and snowbox.
